A borough pub which announced its closure earlier this year is set to reopen after a new landlady took it over.

The Black Ladd Pub on Buckstones Road in Shaw was a long-standing pub, which in recent years had become known for its massive eating challenges.

However, on March 18, its closed its doors due to rising costs.

Now, the pub is set to be brought back to life after the announcement that a new landlady has taken control of the pub.

Amy Barnie, who runs the Dysarts Arms in Mossley and the Sycamore in Ashton-under-Lyne, has said the pub will be reopened "very soon".

In a post on her Facebook page, Ms Barnie wrote: "Very excited to announce our new venture and sister pub to our existing ones, the Dysarts Arms, Mossley and The Sycamore, Ashton-Under-Lyne.

"We will be opening The Black Ladd Pub very soon. We couldn’t let this beautiful pub be lost forever."

The news will be welcomed by Oldhamers, with the pub having served people in the borough for decades before its closure.

In a statement made when the pub's closure was announced, the previous team said the hospitality trade has struggled since the pandemic "and we have had to contend with astronomical energy prices, increased supplier costs and fewer customers during the weekdays due to the financial climate".

The pub added: "Unfortunately, we pay high rent, the building is old and the utility costs are extortionate.
