All of these cases involving people from Oldham or crimes committed in Oldham have been before the magistrates or crown courts in recent weeks.

An Oldham man who assaulted a prison officer has been sentenced.

Dean Watkins, of Edward Street, Oldham, assaulted a male prisoner custody officer in Salford on January 26.

At Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on May 20, the 35-year-old was sentenced after having pleaded guilty.

He was handed a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and was ordered to attend 30 days of rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was also made to pay £175 in compensation to the officer.

A man who breached a restraining order against him has been jailed.

Matthew Cox, of Huxley Street, Oldham, attended a location in Oldham on April 4 where he knew a woman he was prohibited from seeing or contacting was.

The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to breaching the restraining order two days after the offence on April 6 and was sentenced at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on May 28.

Cox was jailed for eight weeks for the breach and was made to pay £90 in court costs.

A man has been sentenced for stealing hundreds of pounds worth of printer cartridges.

Xolani Tshongwe, of Hillside Avenue, Royton, was in Grantham, Lincolnshire, on December 13 last year when he entered a Currys store.

From there, the 42-year-old stole £600 worth of printer cartridges.

At Lincoln Magistrates' Court on May 24, Tshongwe pleaded guilty to theft and was sentenced.

He was made to pay a fine of £120.
