The month of May has seen some major planning decisions made which will have an impact both in the town centre and beyond.
From bringing back an empty town centre building back into use to the development of new apartments, The Oldham Times has picked out some of the most important planning decisions to be made last month.
New apartments to replace 'unpleasant' car park
A town centre car park it set to make way for new apartments after plans were approved.
A proposal to build a detached four-storey building on a car park on Bow Street has been given the go-ahead, with the structure set to have eight one-bedroom apartments.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the plans said the car park "does not create a pleasant street scene" while the new block would offer a "beautiful aesthetic which is both modern and also respectful".
The application was deemed to be acceptable and the apartments can now be developed.
Former cafe can become dwelling
A former cafe in Saddleworth which closed due to financial difficulties can become a one-bedroom flat, planning documents have shown.
Dome Cafe in Greenfield town centre opened in September 2022 on Kinders Lane, however its closure was announced in February due to financial difficulties, less than 18 months after opening its doors.
A proposal was lodged to convert the ground floor space into a dwelling, with these plans having now been given the green light.
Snooker lounge coming to town centre building
A snooker lounge can be developed in the former Oldham Evening Chronicle building after planning permission was granted.
The building has been empty for some years and after plans to turn the structure into flats were withdrawn, a new proposed use has been found.
The snooker lounge will operate between 12pm and 2am each day on the upper ground floor and part of the first floor.
Cash and carry business to relocate
An Oldham cash and carry business is set to change locations after plans were given the green light.
It means the Aria Cash and Carry Ltd business can move from its current site on Vale Drive, near Oldham town centre, to a premises on nearby Bright Street in Werneth.
The Highways Engineer had opposed to plans, citing issues with parking, however the planning officer there would not be a significant impact on traffic and parking in the area.
