A yellow weather warning has been issued for Oldham today, with thunderstorms potentially bringing "torrential" rainfall, travel disruption and flooding.

The warning issued by the Met Office, will last between 2pm and 7pm this afternoon (May 28), and means the borough could see "torrential downpours" which could lead to flooding and travel disruption.

According to the Met Office, thunderstorms will break out in some places this afternoon and move quite quickly eastwards before fading during the late afternoon or early evening.

In areas where the storms do occur, 15 to 30 mm of rain could fall in less than an hour or two in a few spots.

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
