An amateur theatre in Oldham is preparing to hold an open day with a tour and 'sneak peek' of its production in action.

Since the historic Oldham Coliseum closed on Fairbottom Street last year, theatre volunteers and creatives may be looking for another theatre in the centre of Oldham where they can become involved.

Stepping up to the mark, Lyceum Theatre Oldham on Union Street has announced it will be hosting an open day on Saturday, June 2, between 11am and 3pm, where visitors can look forward to a tour of the premises and a previous of a rehearsal in action from its upcoming production, 'Separate Tables'.

A dedicated band of volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions about the theatre and how to get involved in the many events taking place throughout the year.

Refreshments will also be available from the licensed bar.

Often referred to as Oldham's 'hidden gem', Lyceum Theatre Oldham is an amateur theatre offering quality productions.

Some recent reviews read: "I didn't even know it was there but it was a delight.

"The theatre is small and intimate. There's also a nicely set-out bar area with a great variety of drinks at a reasonable price and very friendly staff.”

Another added: "Gorgeous little community theatre run by lovely volunteers."

It is hoped the open day will appeal to potential volunteers as representatives will show attendees how the theatre operates in all the areas, from the front of house, bar and box office to backstage, with backstage management, props, prompt, sound and lighting.

Those who wish to see a short session of a live rehearsal will be admitted intermittently throughout the day.

Potential volunteers can also fill out a simple form to show which areas they are interested.

Training will be offered to anyone who expresses an interest.

Alternatively, residents can come along and look at the lovely theatre and find out about its exciting new season.

The theatre itself is located on the lower ground floor of the Lyceum Building at 95 Union Street.
