The family of Ethan Allen paid tribute to the teenager who was struck by a car in Oldham.

Ethan, 15, was struck by a Seat Ibiza on Rochdale Road at around 8.10pm on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but, tragically, he lost his life on Thursday.

On Friday, a fundraiser was set up in support of the family by Sharmaine Entwistle, Ethan's girlfriend's mother. Ms Entwistle said he was "a beautiful child" who was "full of life".

The family of the teenager, who was a pupil at the Oasis Academy Oldham, paid tribute to him later on the same day in a statement through Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

The statement said: "Ethan was a very energetic, funny, loving young boy who always made time for others. He was always smiling. He had a great love of the sport basketball and played for Oldham State Warriors and more recently Royton Mavericks.

"Ethan also recently became a basketball referee which he was proud to do. He attended as a pupil at the Oasis Academy Oldham where he was popular with friends and peers.

"He is truly missed by his parents, Gillian and Gordon, sister Abbie, grandmother Eunice, his stepfather and stepbrothers. We thank people for their continued support and condolences.

"Ethan's legacy will continue to shine through in life with the donation of his organs to save another life. We are truly proud of him as much in life as in death. May he rest in peace, and we ask to grieve in private."

At the time of the incident a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and drug driving.

He was bailed but police are appealing for information about the incident including footage from CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone.
