Pupils at an Oldham primary school can now enjoy a new outdoor reading shed thanks to a donation from a homebuilder’s community fund.

Fir Bank Primary School, on Grasmere Road, Royton, successfully applied for £600 from home construction company Redrow’s Oldham Community Fund.

The wooden shed in the school's playground will contain books and colouring pencils for children to enjoy and relax with.

Rachael McLaughlin, headteacher at Fir Bank, said: “Reading is a big focus for our school, and children being able to access books during their outdoor play is a huge benefit.

“The shed is already being put to good use by our pupils who are enjoying spending time outdoors with a book.”

Steve Jackson, sales director at Redrow Lancashire, said: “Our community funds provide financial support to the communities we build in.

“I’m very pleased to see the new reading shed is now open and being enjoyed by pupils at Fir Bank.”
