Oldham has the least spacious gardens in Greater Manchester, according to a new study.
The cost of homes for first-time buyers has reached unprecedented levels, as families struggle to meet soaring mortgage costs - but for many, a garden is still a crucial factor in choosing somewhere to live.
That could mean that people may be less inclined to move to Oldham, if the findings of a recent report by MG Timber and Online Marketing Survey are to be believed.
They said that when compared with other boroughs in Greater Manchester, Oldham is the worst area to buy a house with garden space. Researchers said it has the least private outdoor space.
It was beaten by Bury in ninth place, and Salford in eighth place.
Meanwhile, Stockport was found to be the best area to buy a house with a garden space, as it has the highest amount of private outdoor space with more than double the amount of space Oldham has. It was closely followed by Wigan in second place, and Manchester in third.
Across the country, Cornwall was found to be the best area to buy a house with a garden space, as it had the highest private outdoor space, while the City of London was the area in the UK that had the lowest.
Three of the top five areas with the highest green space were from the South West of England and four of the five areas with the least garden space were in the London area.
The researchers used data from the Office for National Statistics around access to gardens and public green spaces in Great Britain.
