The countdown is on after discount giant B&M Bargains announced an opening date for its new store in Oldham.

Bosses at the popular high street retailer said they were "really excited" to get the doors open - and confirmed that the shop will create more jobs in the town.

In a statement to the Oldham Times, a spokesperson revealed that the new branch, in the Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre, will open on June 26.

They said: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.

“We are all really excited to get the doors open and welcome new customers through the door.”

It comes just months after B&M's former branch, which was in the same shopping centre, closed its doors. The move is set to reintroduce shoppers to the bargains that it is so well-known for.

Offering a range of products from household goods to groceries, the retail giant was launched in 1978 and is popular for its cut-price brands.

It has more than 700 stores and employs more than 35,000 staff, with in excess of four million customers attracted through its doors each week. As well as known brands, it offers limited edition ranges - and even clothing.

Previously, the Oldham Times has reported on residents' excitement at plans for the new store, with one describing the relocation as "great news".

It has not yet been confirmed how many new jobs will be created as a result of the move, but according to its statement, it appears  B&M has committed to creating employment opportunities within the town.

Shoppers will have just one month to wait for the new store to open.
