A discount giant is set to relocate its current store in Oldham.

Earlier this year B&M announced that it was due to close its doors inside Spindles Shopping Centre, but only temporarily as it prepared to relocate to another unit in the precinct.

While the store remains open, it is expected to close for three days before the move - when bargain hunters will once again be able to shop in arguably the UK's best discount store.

It is believed the store will close next month on June 23, and will open on June 26.

News of the move delighted fans online, including Rubab Gheewala Raza, who joked that it was difficult going up the escalators to the top floor where it is currently, adding: "Great news."

While according to B&M cashier Faye English, who also commented on social media, the shop is relocating to make space for more offices upstairs.

Meanwhile, Jeremy M.T. Sutcliffe commented: "Not unexpected. It's relatively isolated where it is now."

Replying to one user who said more shops should be introduced in the town centre, he said: "Shopping has changed. All towns have more retail capacity than they are ever going to need. Half the retail centres in the country are going to find new uses. Oldham is no different.

"Like everywhere else Oldham's retail offer has declined. If Spindles/Town Square wasn't being repurposed it would stand as a largely empty mausoleum of shopping long gone."

The Oldham Times has contacted B&M Bargains for comment.
