All of these cases involving people from Oldham have been before the magistrates in the last fortnight.

A man who committed a racially aggravated assault on another man in Alexandra Park has avoided jail.

Andrew Brown, of Robson Street, Oldham, was in the park in Glodwick on August 24 last year when he committed the unprovoked racially aggravated attack on the man, who was described as a quasi-public servant.

The 48-year-old denied the offence, pleading not guilty, however at Tameside Magistrates' Court on May 10, he was found guilty.

Brown was given a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, as it was deemed he has a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.

He was also ordered to attend five days of rehabilitation activity requirement and must pay £100 in compensation to his victim.

A young man has been sentenced after he was found to be driving whilst disqualified.

Marius Alexandru, of Greenacres Road, Oldham, was driving a Vauxhall on the M6 in Cheshire on January 11 earlier this year when he was found to be driving whilst banned and without insurance.

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to both offences on April 9 and was sentenced at Crewe Magistrates' Court on May 14.

Alexandru was banned from getting behind the wheel for six months and was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was also made to pay a victim surcharge of £114 and further costs of £85.

A man has appeared before the courts for marketing a property in Wales for rent without a licence.

Shamim Uddin, of Keble Avenue, Oldham, marketed a property on Railway Street in Cardiff, which he owned, on September 26 last year without a licence.

He was charged with marketing a property for let without a licence and carrying out property management without a licence, both of which he pleaded guilty to at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on May 9.

Uddin was ordered to pay a fine of £293, a victim surcharge of £117 and further costs of £380, bringing his total costs to £790.
