A nursery where "babies giggle with delight" and "children are enthralled while learning" has been given a 'good' rating by Ofsted.

Holyrood Nursery Shaw, based on Milnrow Road, takes care of nearly 100 children aged between zero and four and is run by Thrive Childcare

Following an inspection by Ofsted on March 8, the nursery has received overwhelmingly positive feedback in a report.

The report, written by inspector Luke Heaney, says that children are "keen to greet visitors", are "kind and caring" and "relish taking on challenges".

Staff at Holyrood are said to be good role models for the children and provide them with an "an ambitious curriculum that helps them to make good progress", which includes first-hand experiences such as cooking and visiting supermarkets.

The report added that "babies giggle with delight while crawling" while children are tidy and develop the skills needed to move on.

Mr Heaney was particularly impressed with the nursery's support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and children who speak another language.

He wrote: "The highly experienced SEND coordinator leaves no stone unturned in her pursuit to help children thrive.

"She monitors intervention plans with precision and ensures that no child is left behind. Gaps in learning quickly close and children flourish."

The manager of Holyrood was described as "aspirational" for children's achievements, while leaders of the nursery were praised for providing children with a broad curriculum and prioritising staff well-being.

Staff were also praised for catering towards the children's love of the outdoors and reading, while they were also said to "give high priority in supporting children's personal, social and emotional development".

The only recommendation in the report suggested that the organisation for some routines for older children be improved as it did not get them to engage fully in their learning, with some children sitting for too long after lunch without taking part in any activities, which can lead to some children losing interest.

Jenni McDougal, operations project manager at Thrive Childcare, said: "Here at Holyrood Shaw part of Thrive Childcare and Education we are delighted with the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection.

"The team have worked extremely hard to provide exciting learning opportunities for the children and to promote that love of learning within the early years.

"It was lovely to hear in the report that the inspector really valued and praised our ambitious curriculum and our mission, vision and values in putting children first every time."
