It’s back - an action-packed day of golf to raise vital funds for patient care

Teams are now being invited to enter the Dr Kershaw’s Cup 2024, sponsored by Wiggett Homes, which will enable golf enthusiasts to enjoy an action-packed day of golf whilst also raising vital funds for patient care across the local community.

Taking place at Crompton and Royton Golf Club on Friday, September 13 from 8.30am to 5pm, the hospice’s annual golf day promises to yet again be one to remember as well as being a day that will make a real difference to so many patients and families across the borough.

Dr Kershaw’s fundraising events lead, Alice Entwistle said: “We are thrilled to be holding our golf day once again. It has become a staple feature in our events’ calendar and offers an alternative way for people to come together and support their local hospice. We can’t wait for the day and hope to see as many teams as possible taking part, all with the chance of lifting the Dr Kershaw’s Cup 2024!”

Those who sign up for the golf day will have the opportunity to play 18 holes of competitive golf on a course which is situated at the edge of the Pennines between Rochdale and Oldham, providing sprawling views of the countryside and city landscape. The Crompton and Royton course measures 6,208 yards (par 70 with SSS 71) for men and 5,450 yards (par 72) for ladies and the course offers a balanced test which will stretch the better player whilst fully playable for those of more modest ability.

The hospice is looking for fourball teams to take part in the golf day, with the cost of a team priced at just £200, which includes 18 holes of golf, additional golf challenges, a breakfast sandwich and hot drink on arrival and a presentation and buffet to complete the day (players do not need to change for dinner but will be required to change their footwear.)

The half-way house will also be open on the day, with refreshments available in lieu of a donation to Dr Kershaw’s, plus the awards presentation will include a raffle in aid of the hospice and drinks will be available from the golf club’s bar.

Last year’s event saw 18 teams competing to be crowned the Dr Kershaw’s Cup Champions. John Igoe, captain of last year’s winning team, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to lift the Dr Kershaw’s Cup with Team Mulligan. The event was brilliantly organised and we had a great time supporting a wonderful charity and a worthy cause,.

“We are looking forward to coming back this year to defend our trophy!”

Wiggett Homes’ managing director, Sam Wiggett said: “Wiggett Homes is pleased to be the main sponsor of the Dr Kershaw’s Golf Day 2024.

“The help and support Dr Kershaw’s offers the patients and their families is second to none. My sister and I, the owners of Wiggett Homes, saw this first hand when our father sadly passed away last year.

“We will be forever grateful to Dr Kershaw’s, particularly the Hospice at Home service for making our father as comfortable as possible in his final days.

“We hope all participants have a good round and the fundraising target is met from this event to support more patients.”

If you are unable to attend our golf day but your business would like to support the event and Dr Kershaw’s, the hospice is also looking for hole sponsors. Hole sponsorship is just £50 per hole and your logo will be in a prime position for each player to view as they play the course.
