After months of campaigning, the "worst road in Oldham" has been cleaned.

On Wednesday, two officers from Oldham Council's street cleaning team spent an entire day litter-picking Wellington Road, in Oldham, according to one campaigner.

But after just one day of the highway being clean of any rubbish, a TV was dumped - much to amusement of Grange Court resident Quentin Crooks.

"We had a very big result - a very, very big result. They came and they cleaned it," the 53-year-old said.

"What happened was two guys descended on Wellington Road, they worked on it all day apparently and I've been told that they were exhausted by the end of it.

"But less than 24 hours later someone has fly-tipped a TV now."

He continued: "It's just that tv there now, what can you say? It tickled me because whoever did it propped it up very neatly against the metal fence but nothing else has been dumped.

"Despite that, this is a massive result because it was heading towards being the worst road in Oldham."

Before the authority cleaned the street, broken glass, empty cans and even a bottle of urine lay discarded alongside hundreds of other  items - which was driving house prices down, Mr Crooks believed.

Wellington Road is an unadopted highway which has posed questions over who should be responsible for its maintenance.

Mr Crooks believes Oldham Council should extend its duties on the land as there is paving and street lights, while Cllr Goodwin, Cabinet member for neighbourhoods, previously explained that it is the responsibility of the homeowners on the street to maintain and clean it.

He added: "The council just need to pop down once a fortnight and keep on top of it now because it's amazing - it's amazing!"
