Planning documents have shown that the pop-up theatre space coming to Oldham this spring and summer is set to be based in the Civic Centre car park.

This week, the theatre company behind Oldham Coliseum has announced a new programme is coming to the town in the shape of a 167-seat pop-up theatre called the Roundabout.

The 2024 programme is due to deliver theatre, live performances and activities between April and July, and now planning documents have revealed where the theatre will be based.

According to a planning statement submitted by The Production Office to Oldham Council, the pop-up theatre will be situated in the car park of the Oldham Civic Centre.

According to the planning statement, it has been proposed to erect the domed theatre in the southeast corner of the car park between Friday, April 19 and Wednesday, April 24, before officially opening on Thursday, April 25.

The theatre is then set to close on Sunday, July 14, before it is deconstructed over a period of five days.

Coliseum at the Roundabout will host a variety of events over the coming months, many of which will be free to attend.

Its opening week will also offer residents the opportunity to look around and find out more about the new theatre space.

Some Oldham Theatre Workshop groups, in partnership with the Coliseum, will also be using the Roundabout, such as its LumenUS group for young people with special educational needs, Chrysalis, which works with adults with a range of physical and learning disabilities, and its creative youth council.

The planning statement added that the pop-up theatre will provide opportunities for aspiring theatre technicians and creatives.

The festival will offer participants in the scheme a bursary and given access to the theatre space for a week to progress their work and any new ideas they are developing.
