Following the recent announcement that the Barclays branch in Oldham would be closing down, The Oldham Times has looked at the other banks branches which have closed down in recent years.
Here are the branches which are set to close or have closed down in the borough recently.
Barclays
The international bank's branch on High Street in Oldham town centre will close its doors on Friday, May 24, at 12pm.
A statement on the bank's website reads: "We're permanently closing this branch from 12pm on Friday 24 May 2024.
"We’ll continue to be part of your community in Oldham. We’re just finalising the arrangements of where and when we'll be available to support you, and as soon as they are confirmed we’ll share the details."
Barclays said it was closing the branch down due to the fact that most customers now banked online and less than 200 customers in Oldham still banked at the branch.
They will need to visit either of the bank's branches in Manchester city centre moving forward.

Royal Bank of Scotland
The RBS branch on Rochdale Road closed down in 2019 and has been the subject of different planning applications since.
In 2021, an application to convert the building into a bar and house in multiple occupation was approved, however the property was then put up for sale on Rightmove the following year.
However, earlier this month, a proposal was approved to turn the building into seven flats.
Virgin Money
The Virgin Money branch on Yorkshire Street closed down back in late 2020.
However, Oldham customers of the bank have been able to visit the bank's branch on Market Place.
