A much-loved old-fashioned foodie favourite has been given a new lease of life at a multi-award-winning Oldham pub.
The Fox and Pine on Greaves Street has added mini duck-a-muffin pies for locals to share over a range of their award-winning real ales.
The duck-a-muffins were a staple favourite across the community but in recent years their availability at local outlets has faded.
The original savoury ‘duck’ was actually a type of meatball or faggot, but enterprising Michelle and Chris Riley, owners of the town centre pub, have reintroduced them with a twist at their pub.
“And they are going down a treat,” says Michelle.
“I decided to put the ducks, with some secret ingredients, in a pie crust and they’ve really taken off as dinky pies with our customers.”
Leicester-born Michelle, a vegetarian, added: ”I’ve added a few secret ingredients of my own and my husband, a true Oldhamer, really approves of them as do the customers.”
The Fox and Pine has claimed a hat trick of CAMRA awards for the best pub in the Rochdale, Oldham and Bury branch and was a winner of CAMRA greater manchester pub of the year award.
