Staff in a nursing home in Chadderton have worked hard to create a beauty salon with a vision to pamper residents and give them 'that salon feeling'.

Oldham Total Care in Middlewood Court provides care and accommodation to adults with a range of needs around the clock.

For the past few weeks, staff in the home have been fundraising to create a salon and barber area within the unit for residents to enjoy.

Photographs of the 'Total Bliss' salon under construction show staff painted the walls and set up mirrored areas with products on the shelves and seats, including a professional barber chair, for haircuts.

The salon even provides tea and coffee and the engagement team said they are happy with the outcome.

A spokesperson for the care home said: "We wanted to use an empty space for the residents to have an area in which they feel like they have been to a salon or barber without leaving the home.

"Most of the residents at Total Care are unable to leave the home, so we asked the public for any donations and we’re overwhelmed by the support and offers of equipment.

"The salon will be used by the engagement team to pamper residents by doing their nails and will also be used by hairdressers when they come into Total Care.

"So far we’ve had a fabulous reaction from both residents and families."

Comments from families said the salon looks "fabulous" and praised the team for the "lovely" gesture.

The salon opened to its residents on Tuesday (February 20) and images show several enjoyed getting their nails done and their hair cut and blow-dried.

The team at Total Care added: "As the engagement team were trying to give the residents a better quality of life while they are staying with us.

"This is just one of the steps we’re planning on taking and working towards the future to provide a better home for all."
