A faulty fridge freezer is believed to have caused a fire at a house in Oldham last night.
A crew from Hollins Fire Station attended to a kitchen fire at 2.48am this morning, with the fire service saying it was called after a fridge freezer sparked a blaze at a home in Chadderton.
A couple in their 50s were woken by their fire alarm and went downstairs to discover the blaze, which took place at their Worcester Street home.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "There was a house fire on Worcester Street - that was a faulty fridge freezer in a kitchen.
"White goods can go faulty, it can happen and it does happen, it damaged the kitchen but was isolated to the kitchen.
"Fortunately the couple, in their 50s, had a working fire alarm and woke up to discover the fire - if they didn't it could've been a lot worse."
Today, the fire service will visit residents on Worcester Street to make sure they have a working fire alarm.
