If you're looking for a last-minute half-term getaway or planning for a weekend break, the Easter holidays or beyond, you really need look no further than Haven.
From the moment we entered the site it was easy to see how the name for the popular holiday parks was coined, and that feeling was only enhanced during our three-night stay.
Haven operates self catering static caravan holiday parks across 38 sites in the UK, predominantly in coastal locations, with many also including touring and campaign facilities.
Skegness was the site we opted for, and our two-bedroom silver caravan was like a home from home, and perfect for relaxing in after a long drive.
We had arrived later than we had originally planned to but we were greeted with a warm welcome nevertheless by the reception staff, who should probably have been making their way home but were going the extra mile for customers to make sure they had everything they needed, and gave the sense that nothing was too much trouble.
We were given a welcome pack with key information and a list of activities, which we had already pre-booked online for our two children, but it was useful to have as all the timings for the free entertainment (of which there is a lot!) were included.
After a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed we were ready to tackle our first full day on site.
It feels easy to say there's something for everyone - it's a phrase that rolls off the tongue. But the Skegness Haven ticked every box you could possibly think of: entertainment, recreation, indoor space, outdoor space, swimming pool and sauna, food, drink. Even dogs had their own designated play area included in an £11million revamp of the site!
Our boys would have been more than happy with just the arcade in all honesty (which is, by the way, brilliant), but every day we were spoilt for choice for activities and events to attend.
In the end we decided to do something that we wouldn't necessarily do at home. We also wanted the boys to do at least one activity together, and because of their ages (four and seven) those were a bit thin on the ground.
Activities for four-year-olds were limited, but that's not unusual.
The story time was a bit too young for our youngest but perfect for toddlers; the NERF gun training would have been right up his street, but he did not meet the minimum age requirement and had to settle for watching his big brother blast his way around some obstacles from the play park.
There were tears and the bottom lip protruded, as it does, but we explained that we would go back again (because we definitely will) and when he is old enough he can join in too. There was the promise of a trip to the arcade (another one!) as well to cheer him up.
One activity they were able to do together - and which they both enjoyed - was Magical Makers, where experts teach youngsters a number of tricks and guiding them through the magic set that was included in the price; something that has become a souvenir they have continued to explore long after the holiday.
The weather was kind so we were able to make use of the play park, and treat ourselves to some mini donuts from the kiosk in the new outdoor piazza in the sunshine before we had lunch.
We opted to go back to the caravan to eat, but there are plenty of catering options on site which we used in the evenings, with Cook's fish and chip shop, Papa John's Pizza and Burger King, as well as The Richmond Arms. And the facility to order through a QR code for the food and drinks of your choice to be delivered to your table in the Marina Bar and Stage makes the whole experience hassle free, especially when your children after being entertained by the brilliant staff - be it dancing, taking part in a game show or watching the Paw Patrol-esque Seaside Squad on stage. Watching your children be thoroughly entertained and engaged with a chilled glass of Aperol Spritz in hand was absolute bliss.
Sports fans are catered for too with a number of big screens in the newly refurbished bar.
The beach and seaside attractions at Skegness are walking distance or a very short drive away, but there is so much to do there is no real need to leave the site.
A sign of a good holiday is a reluctance to go home, and that is certainly how we felt as we locked the door on our caravan after a fun-filled long weekend.
Happiness was our Haven holiday, and we cannot wait to go back.
