A gang of men have been charged following a kidnapping in Tameside.

On Wednesday (January 24), Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to reports of a possible abduction at 2am, where a man was assaulted and bundled into what is believed to have been a 4x4 silver BMW, on Chester Avenue in Dukinfield.

Four men between the ages of 23 and 35 have now been charged and remanded with kidnap of the man who has since been found, while two others have been charged in relation to the kidnapping.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Six men have been charged in relation to a kidnap that occurred in Tameside on Wednesday 24 January 2024 where a man was assaulted and forced into a car on Chester Avenue in Dukinfield.

"Thankfully the victim has since been located safe and well."

Paul Doherty, aged 35, of Daventry Avenue in Bispham, Blackpool, Marshall Redfern, aged 23, of Fox Street, Heywood, 28-year-old Joshua Oakes of Halifax Road, Rochdale, 32-year-old Daniel Hague of Red Bank Road, Bispham, Blackpool, are all due to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court on March 1.

While 32-year-old Edward Dowdall of Stronsay Place in Bispham in Blackpool was also charged and released on court bail to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court March 1, and 19-year-old Jack Laferty of no fixed abode was charged and remanded with conspiracy to kidnap and concerned in the supply of cocaine.

Laferty was due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court yesterday.

Two females, aged 18 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to kidnap and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
