Bins at an Oldham cemetery have repeatedly been set on fire in recent months, with Oldham Council saying the vandalism has cost thousands of pounds to deal with.
The council shared on its social media pages today (Wednesday, January 24) that in the past eight months, eight litter bins at Greenacres Cemetery have been set on fire.
Each time a bin has been replaced, the new one has been vandalised.
The council said in the post that each bin costs around £500 to replace, including installation, meaning £4,000 has been spent in recent months due to the vandalism.
Council funds are stretched as it is – and the vandalism that has taken place in Greenacres Cemetery costs us all. ⚠️

This money, according to the council, "could have been used on other vital services for residents".
The council added: "It’s not only the financial cost – no one who is attending a funeral wants to see a burnt-out bin. People need to have some respect."
All of the eight incidents have been reported to the police, according to the council.
