Residents have shared their confusion as an Oldham road is set to be closed for 11 days, with people warned their water could be discoloured during the period.
Delph Road (A6052) will be closed from today (January 8) until Friday, January 19, as part of water company United Utilities’ ‘ongoing maintenance programme’.
Some residents in the Delph community group on Facebook said they had not received any guidance on the closure, though others said they had received letters with information.
A letter sent to residents by the water company late last month said the works could ‘take up to two weeks to finish’ and warned of the potential for noise.
Some residents were confused as to the name used for the road.
The location affected is a portion of the A6052, named Delph Road, between Wham Lane and Slackcote Lane.
Additionally, residents were warned that water may appear discoloured during the work – however United Utilities says this ‘is nothing to worry about and will quickly return to normal’.
On Facebook, resident Pat Bridgestock commented: “Just like the old days in January!! Except road works instead of snow.”
The disruption comes after disruption to Delph residents in November and December, with Delph High Street’s bridge closing to motorists for more than a week.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: “This is part of our ongoing maintenance programme. Across the North West we’re carrying out an extensive programme of work to refresh, clean or replace water pipes which will help us continue to provide high-quality water for customers.
“Customers were given the following advice in the letter in terms of access to their properties: You will still be able to get to your home or driveway, but if you do need to park on the road we may need you to temporarily move your car for a short while, just while our team are working.”
Residents with concerns have been advised to contact the water company by social media or on 0345 672 3723, quoting project number 80065029.
