The Met Office has issued another weather warning over the festive period for heavy rain.
The yellow rain warning has been issued between 3am and 6pm on Wednesday, December 27 – amidst the celebratory period as people gear up to bring in the New Year following Christmas.
According to the weather agency’s warning, heavy rain “brings the potential for disruption to travel and a risk of flooding.”

In particular, the Met Office has warned people to be aware of the following risks:
- There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.
- Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.
- Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
- There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads.
- There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.
The yellow weather warning stretches from south of Nottingham to Scotland.
Much of Greater Manchester is covered by the warning, including all of the city’s 10 boroughs – though Wigan and Leigh town centres avoid the warning area.
