The 10 spots where the most parking tickets were issued in Oldham over the last year have been revealed.

The Oldham Times submitted a Freedom of Information request to find out which spots in the borough saw the most parking tickets given out in the previous 12 months.

And now, the information has been shared by the council, and has revealed which areas saw the most parking tickets handed out, with six of the top 10 spots based in Oldham town centre.

The figures showed that the car park for Tommyfield Market was the area where the most parking tickets were issued in the last year and was the only spot to see more than 2,000 tickets handed out.

In second place was key town centre road Yorkshire Street, followed by nearby Bradshaw Street.

Dovestones Reservoir car park came in fourth place, with the area known to see many illegally parked cars, especially during the summer months.

The remaining roads and car parks in the top ten were all based in the Coldhurst ward.

Cllr Chris Goodwin, the council’s cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “The majority of parking tickets are issued in and around the town centre, but they are only issued when vehicles are observed to be parking in contravention to the parking arrangements at a particular location.

“It’s the driver’s responsibility to adhere to the restrictions at the location or clearly display the correct parking permit or parking ticket.

“Members of the public can appeal a parking fine and details are on the ticket of how to do this.”

Parking tickets are paid directly to the council, meaning the money goes towards funding the civil parking enforcement and any surplus made by councils in the country typically goes towards transportation projects.
