Chadderton’s new Aldi store has been given an opening date, with a Team GB medallist set to celebrate the opening.
The new shop, on Lydia Becker Way, will open on Thursday, December 7, at 8.00am. The shop will then be open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm, opening 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
A drive-thru Costa cafe is set to open next to the shop after plans were approved earlier this year.
The new Aldi will be run by store manager Tessa Atkinson, along with a team of 30 colleagues from the local community.
Works on the 1,315 sqm Aldi store, which will include an additional warehouse and office facilities, started earlier this year. Council leader Cllr Arooj Shah joined members from the Aldi team to tour the site while it was under construction in September.

The shop will become the second to open in the borough in recent months, after the chain’s Lees store opened in October, with Olympian Josie Knight on hand to cut the ribbon.
Team GB bronze medallist Sarah Jones will be there to cut the ribbon at the Chadderton store’s opening, which will become the borough’s fifth.
Sarah will also give away complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s famous Super 6 range to the first 30 customers in the queue.
Aldi Store Manager Tessa Atkinson said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Chadderton. It’s set to be a special day and having Olympic hero Sarah Jones join us will make it a morning to remember.”
Hockey star Sarah said: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store; it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of Team GB.”
The new Aldi store is also calling on local charities and food banks in Chadderton to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community.
Local charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, seven days a week.
Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@neighbourly.com.
