Oldham Council has announced emergency works are to take place on the A62 between Clowes Street and Drury Lane.

Water company United Utilities is planning to carry out emergency repair work on a sewer along the A62 between the junction of Clowes Street and Drury Lane.

Work is expected to start on the evening of Friday, October 27, and is set to be completed over the course of three to four days, according to the council.

Oldham Council says United Utilities is looking to complete these works under a single-lane closure.

The water company has reportedly agreed to work weekends during the half-term break, work 24-hours a day to reduce the duration of the work, and to provide additional signage to warn road users.

The road closure is near a reported sinkhole which has delayed the construction of an Oldham Starbucks and KFC.

The Bowling Street site, where a popular pub once sat, is currently in the process of being transformed into a KFC restaurant and Starbucks coffee house, both with drive-through access.

However, an alleged sinkhole is currently threatening the timescale - and could delay the grand opening.

Oldham Council has been contacted for comment.
