A home garage on a quiet street in Chadderton has been converted into a holiday lodge and the room is already being let out.

Now a change of use proposal has been submitted for Ferney Field Road and outlines using the garage on a residential plot of land as a holiday apartment.

Drawings of the single-storey building reveal the garage has an open-plan lounge, kitchenette and bedroom.

There is also a separate bathroom with a toilet, shower and sink.

The plans, submitted in September, stipulate the frames and glazing of the window will be "toughened safety glazing" and further measures would be taken to install thermal bridging and draught seals to the "inspector's satisfaction".

The boiler was also to be upgraded to comply with efficiency ratings, smoke detectors and fire doors with self-closing hinges added. The Oldham Times: The lodge has an open plan kitchen, dining and sleeping area with a double bedThe lodge has an open plan kitchen, dining and sleeping area with a double bed (Image: Airbnb)

The room is currently being let out under the name The Lodge Oldham for around £71 to £87 per night.

The Lodge has had a number of guests already and currently has an overall 'passable' rating of 5.6 on Booking.com.

While there is no on-site parking for guests and pets are also prohibited, it lists a smart television, heating, electric kettle with free tea bags and coffee, premium bedding, a hairdryer and complimentary internet access as available amenities to its guests.

Photographs of the booking on Airbnb also show the apartment is situated at the end of a long driveway and has a scenic view over a field opposite.

The images also reveal the kitchen area has a sink, fridge freezer, oven and hob as well as a small dining table for two which sits closely to the double bed.

Some described their experience as "bad", "rural" and unclean, with one claiming a shower glass panel is missing and "looks like the building work hasn't been completed".

Another wrote: "It is very dirty. I left the property after one hour because I couldn't tolerate the dirtiness of the bed and the toilet."

A third writing on UK Hotels said it was a "shame" and "could be good".

The guest continued: "This property has great potential - it needs some input and investment in getting it to a suitable level though.

"It has an 'unfinished' air about it, there are numerous examples of this internally."

But others said it was "peaceful", "comfortable", "very good" and "good", in ratings across various booking sites.

One review read: "Lovely place, quiet and clean. I will definitely being staying again."

Another who stayed in July added: "A good place for a couple of night stopover base for exploring. Good facilities. No off-road parking available.

"On-street parking is possible but need to be careful not to block the narrow lane or obstruct neighbours."

On Airbnb, the apartment is described as being set in an "idyllic position in a semi-rural location ideal for two" with "excellent views" in close proximity to Royal Oldham Hospital and the town centre.

The Lodge Oldham was contacted for comment but did not respond before this article was published.

Oldham Council is yet to respond to the plans and decide whether the conversion has permission to operate as a lodge.
