First they were terrorising Paris and now a ‘bed bug’ has been spotted commuting to Oldham.

A suspected bed bug has been seen and photographed on the 59 bus to Oldham Mumps.

The disturbing image comes after bed bugs have already been spotted across London, with videos of the blood-sucking creatures on tube lines and buses clocking millions of views.

The 22-year-old passenger who saw the bug climbing up a window took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to urge First Bus to take action.

She said: “Your 59 to Oldham Mumps has bedbugs, I suggest you do something about this quickly.”

One person replied to the concerned passenger’s post and suggested the insect could be a tic.

She responded: "It’s really zoomed in and had a reddish tint, I don't know either way it’s gross."

Bed bug, tic, or something else, First Bus Manchester responded quickly to the photo, tweeting: “This is really concerning to see, and we do apologise for this.

“Were you able to get the fleet number so we can report this to out depot management team?”

First Bus and the passenger were able to establish the exact bus the creature was spotted on. The service had left Piccadilly Gardens at 2.50pm and made its way to Oldham Mumps with the “bed bug” on board.

A spokesperson for First Manchester said: “Our buses are cleaned thoroughly each evening by a specialist team using highly effective and long-lasting cleansing products.

“We have no reports of bugs being identified and our team remains vigilant as part of the normal cleaning regime.”

How long the alleged bed bug made its way back and forth between Manchester and Oldham is unknown.

It is feared that bed bugs could take a hold of the UK as they have done in Paris.

The pests have been spotted across public transport and public places like doctor surgeries, cinemas and hospitals.

@lassogold Minding my own business on the victoria line, a f**king bed bug is on my leg. Said he’d got a great deal on the eurostar and wondered if I could take him home. No!! Sort it out @Transport for London #bedbugs #bedbugslondon #bedbugsparis #tube #infestation ♬ original sound - Lasso Gold

Microbiologist and founder of Bed Bugs Ltd David Cain spoke to Sky News, saying: “I think there's probably a similar level of issue in London as there is in Paris at present.

“They’re already on buses, trains, tubes, cinemas, doctor's surgeries, public spaces, hospitals.”

The scientist went on to suggest that while Parisians are talking about the problem, Brits are “trying to keep the whole thing quiet”.

Meanwhile, MailOnline have reported that London Mayor Sadiq Khan has called the bed bug problem “a real source of concern”.

He said: “I want to reassure those listening that TfL has the best regimes to clean our assets on a nightly basis.

“There is no complacency from TfL.”

Oldhamers who believe that have been affected by bed bugs are able to use Oldham Council’s free pest control service, which was launched earlier this year.
