The Oldham Big Bang Bonfire is set to return to the borough for its 11th year in 2023, the council has confirmed.

The popular event, which is the largest of its kind in Oldham each year, will once again take place at Oldham Edge Playing Fields, off Henshaw Street, on Thursday, November 2.

Final arrangements are currently being made for the event, which will see a massive bonfire, a lights show and a fireworks finale from Fantastic Fireworks.

The event will get underway at 5pm, with visitors able to enjoy the fairground and food stalls.

Oldham Council has said people should keep an eye out on their website and social media pages for updates on the performance line-up.

People attending the event are urged to wear suitable clothing and footwear and are asked to put all waste in the bins on site or to take home to dispose of.

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and attendees are asked that they do not bring their dogs, except for assistance dogs.

Free parking will be available in all council-owned town centre car parks, on-street pay and display parking bays and Spindles car park from 3pm on the day.

As in previous years, demand for spaces is expected to be high, so people are advised to use public transport where possible.

The council has said the Old Leisure Centre car park on Rock Street will not be available on the day and Lord Street will be closed from 3pm from its junction with Rock Street to Yorkshire Street.

“This year we’ll have another spectacular line-up of free entertainment, fireworks and flames for all the family to enjoy.

“Why go to the trouble of buying your own fireworks, which can be expensive, when you can come to our fun and safe family event?

"You’ll be able to see top class entertainment, including some of the best fire display and fireworks professionals in the country, all within a safe and controlled environment.”
