An Oldham coach has issued an update on the future of his football sessions following his three-year-old son’s recent cancer diagnosis.
Dan Squibbs, who has been running Dan’s Dribblers for 10 years, has announced on social media that he will not be personally running any sessions this month but is “exploring other options” to keep the sessions going after receiving “some very kind offers” from several people.
He added that any updates on the football sessions will be posted on the Dan’s Dribblers Facebook page.
Last week the 40-year-old dad shared the heartbreaking news that his youngest son Tommy, has leukaemia.
In an update on Wednesday, Dan said Tommy has nearly finished his first round of chemotherapy and that on completing it will he be at his “most vulnerable” due to the impact it will have on his immune system. The family has therefore decided to “limit contact with the outside world”.
He went on to thank everyone for their “love and support” during what is a “horrible time”, including Gemma Murphy and Jenny Dyer who have set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his family.
Gemma and Jenny, who met through their sons attending Dan's Dribblers, set up the page with an aim to raise £5,000 to help support the family financially while Dan takes a break from football sessions, his only source of income, to be by Tommy’s side and comfort his two older brothers.
Dan has since said his family will also be donating to the “various wonderful charities” that are supporting Tommy.
To donate go to the GoFundMe page which can be found on the Dan’s Dribblers Facebook page.
