Firefighters have responded after reports of a small fire at Dovestone Reservoir.
Crews were at the reservoir for half an hour on Tuesday, after a group was seen to be using a barbecue on the reservoir.
The reservoir, just outside Greenfield, is a popular destination for nature lovers, but fires and barbecues are strictly forbidden, with those flouting the rules liable for £2,500 fines or even a prison sentence.
The ban is due to the risk of wildfires on the moors.
Those visiting are also warned against discarding cigarettes, litter or matches due to the risk.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 7.10pm on Tuesday, September 5, fire crews from Oldham and Mossley stations were called to reports of a small fire at Dove Stone Reservoir.
“Three people with a barbecue were advised to leave the area. GMFRS crews were in attendance for about half an hour.”
Water company United Utilities manages the site alongside the RSPB in the Dove Stone Partnership.
A Dove Stone Partnership spokesperson said: “BBQs and fires are not permitted at Dove Stone.
“We urge any visitors to respect the environment and the local community.”
In July last year, roughly 70 firefighters had to tackle a blaze at Dovestone Reservoir overnight.
Crews from four stations spent around three hours at the site dealing with the woodland blaze.

It’s not just barbecues causing problems at the reservoir.
In June, more than 30 parking fines were handed out in just two days, with the situation regularly causing a nightmare to those using the nature spot.
United Utilities, in partnership with Oldham Council and the RSPB, has developed a visitor action plan to reduce the impact of high volumes of visitor traffic at the site.
As part of the plan the partnership funds car park marshalls who are deployed in the area during peak periods such as school holidays.
