An Oldham theatre has announced it is kicking off its latest season with a "laugh out loud Irish comedy".
Lyceum Theatre Oldham on Union Street is opening its 2023/2024 Season with A Skull in Connemara by Martin McDonagh.
The play is described by the theatre as a “close to the bone, laugh out loud Irish comedy” with “plenty of gallows humour and belly laughs”.
The theatre has also warned the play is gruesome in parts and that some patrons may find some content offensive.
It follows gravediggers Mick and Martin whose job is to disinter the bones of corpses and smash them to dust to make room for new arrivals.
Rumour has it that Mick murdered his wife, so Mick arranges for Tom, Martin's policeman brother, to be at her disinterment.
Lyceum joint artistic director, Maggie Blaszczok said: “After Martin McDonagh's recent Oscar nominations for The Banshees of Inisherin, we thought it might be appropriate to stage one of his plays again.
“A Skull in Connemara is part of a trilogy which includes The Beauty Queen of Leenane which we performed in 2016.”
The play is being performed from September 25 to September 30 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £12 each and are on sale online at lyceumtheatre.org.uk
Lyceum Theatre Oldham puts on five plays a year as well as special events such including quiz and jazz nights.
