A bar has ramped up security after saying "idiots" have been drawn to the influx of nighttime businesses in the area and are "causing trouble".

Rumours on Market Square in Royton said the town has become "crazy mad busy" over the past few months due to a rise of new bars in the area.

In a post on social media, bosses at the bar then said the rise "unfortunately" meant a "lot of people that we don't know" are coming into the area.

The popular music and karaoke venue implied incidents have increased as a result.

The bar said: "Some certainly don't know how to have a good time without causing us problems.

"Every week, for the last few months, there's been an idiot who wants to cause trouble."

As a result, the bar said it has now made the decision to ramp up security and take on door staff over weekends and bank holidays.

The bar added: "Just not worth my customers, staff or myself getting hurt.

"We're all here for a good time."

Residents and customers in the area were mostly supportive of the idea.

A comment read: "Sad to hear but I understand if it's required."

Another, who said Rumours is a "fantastic pub", added: "Shame there is always one - and you have some fantastic friendly customers of all ages willing to enjoy the evenings."

The resident emplored the bar to "name, shame" and make a "photo gallery on the wall", while another asked if bosses could operate a 'pub watch' and get the culprits barred from every pub.

However, Rumours said: "We do, and it's not that easy."
