A man has died following a crash on the M62 yesterday near Oldham that closed the motorway for several hours.

At around 2.20pm, a car crashed into a central reservation barrier between junctions 21 and 20 westbound near the Rochdale and Oldham border.

Now, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have confirmed that a man in his 30s died at the scene despite the efforts of emergency services.

One man suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital, while another man suffered minor injuries.

Now, police are appealing for information from the public as they continue to investigate the crash.

Anyone who may have seen something or may have dashcam, mobile or CCTV footage from around the time of the crash is urged to contact GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 or 101, quoting log 1973 of 02/08/23.

Alternatively, members of the public can pass information to the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

The crash led to a stretch of the M62 westbound being closed for more than five hours, while a lane on the eastbound stretch was closed due to the damage caused to the central reservation barrier.

North West Ambulance Service confirmed yesterday afternoon that two men had been taken to hospital as a result of the crash.
