An Oldham inn has been named the Pub of the Year at an award ceremony.

The Bridge Inn scooped the “Outstanding Achievement” award at this year’s JW Lees Pub of the Year Awards ceremony.

The pub on Moorhey Street, run by Hayley and Dave, describes itself as a “traditional pub with a fantastic friendly atmosphere and amazing cask ales”.

It hosts darts competitions, shows live sport, and runs events including family fun days.

In a celebratory post on Facebook, the pub wrote: “Woo hoo we won. Love you all and our lovely pub.”

The post has been met with dozens of comments from customers congratulating the pub on its “well deserved” win.

One commenter wrote: “Fantastic well done and well deserved.”

Another added: “Great to see The Bridge Inn still doing well. Brings back memories of my mum and dad's first years in the pub trade. It was never just a pub. It was a community centre.”

Another Oldham pub, The Angel Inn on Shaw Road in Royton was nominated in the ‘Most Improved Pub’ category but just missed out on the award.

Landlady Carly Brotherdale wrote on Facebook: “Unfortunately we didn't win but it was a privilege to even be nominated, it means we're doing something right.

“Thank you to all the customers at The Angel Inn, Royton we love you all. We'll smash it next year for some category I'm sure.”

Last year The Halfway House and The Puckersley Inn in Royton both scooped awards at the JW Lees Pub of the Year Awards ceremony.

The Halfway House won three awards: Hero of Lockdown, Regional Pub of the Year, and Pub of the Year 2022, and The Puckersley Inn scooped the Food Pub of the Year award.
