A major road in Oldham will be closed for an entire week in the evening as maintenance work is carried out.

Oldham Way will be closed in both directions from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 this month from 8pm until 5am.

The resurfacing work is planned overnight when the road is typically quieter.

Oldham Council secured funding of £4.174m from the government to pay for the scheme.

The closures will be in place from Manchester Road roundabout to Prince Street.

Meanwhile, Wellington Street and Waterloo Street will remain closed underneath Oldham Way, to all traffic until work is completed in late autumn.

This work will mean the bridges are in a good state of repair.

When the road reopens again on Monday, July 24, there will also be a change in the way it crosses over onto the opposite carriageway.

Westbound traffic on Oldham Way will crossover onto the eastbound side, between the onslip Road to Emmott Way and return back on to the west bound carriageway after Waterloo Street.

The council said it apologises for any inconvenience and is encouraging drivers to use other routes.
