A popular cafe in Saddleworth was allegedly broken into and trespassed by a group of young people.

The Hidden Garden cafe on High Street, Uppermill, which sits in a 'hidden' garden spot by the canal, claimed a group of "kids" trespassed into the cafe on Thursday (June 22) night.

In a series of posts on social media, the small family-run business said it was appealing to the parents of the teenagers to come forward to pay for using the electric patio heaters and clean up "the mess" they had left.

The cafe appears to have received various tip-offs from residents, including screenshots of the youngsters sitting in the outdoor venue after hours.

On the social media platform BeReal, two members of the group uploaded images of them sat in the premises - one of which was tagged with the location Saddleworth and the time, 7.13pm.

The images show up to eight young people lounging on the cafe's furniture while one boy appeared to be smoking from a vape.

The business was clearly closed as the pictures also reveal the chairs had been stacked away.

In a follow-up post online, the cafe said it has since obtained the names and addresses of those involved - and issued a strict deadline for those responsible to come forward.

The post said: "We have a lot of loyal friends, locals and customers which now means we have all the names and most of the addresses of everyone who let themselves into our business.

"We are giving you until Sunday to drop us a message or call into the cafe (you or the parent/person responsible for you), to let us know how you plan on paying for the electric patio heaters you've had on whilst trespassing into our property and cleaning up the mess left.

"Failing that, names will be going up on our social media and in our cafe followed by visits to the addresses we've been given.

"How dare you."

The Hidden Garden cafe also said it had phoned the police about the incident.

The news comes as the business issued a public notice just days before the alleged trespassing about "dine and dash" customers.

It said customers are ordering food "and then leaving without paying" and that the problem is "starting to be a regular occurrence".

Now, the cafe said it has no choice but to ask customers to pay for their orders upfront.

The Hidden Garden has been approached for comment on the trespassing incident.
