Residents in Limeside have come together to transform a green space being used as an “off-road bike racetrack” by “local youths” into a playground for children in the community.

The grass circle on Seventh Avenue in Limeside has been filled with swings, slides, and trampolines to give children in the area a place to play.

Planters have also been placed on the circle to allow residents to grow their own fruit and vegetables.

The project was funded and organised entirely by local residents.

Photographs of the new play area published in a post on Facebook by the page Oldham Neighbourhood Watch show a variety of toys on the circle.

The post reads: “The local residents have recently got together and created this on the circle in Seventh Avenue, Limeside as this location was being used by local youths using off road bikes like a race track.

“The local residents have put swings, slides and trampolines on the circle with planters to be used by the locals to grow their own fruit and veg and to give the local community/kids/youths something to do and somewhere to play.

“Well done to all involved in this project without any funding or support from OMBC.”

When contacted by The Oldham Times the council stated that the site is not owned by the local authority.

The Facebook post has been shared more than 30 times and received dozens of comments from users praising the new play area.

One user commented: “This circle was used as a race track up until recently and was also known to the police as the main area for trouble but recently since the toys have been put there it’s been really quiet.

“It’s bringing them community together and school runs for mums/dads and kids is so much fun now.”

Another added: “Walked past the other day and everyone looked like they were having so much fun, well done guys.”
