Oldham Council has announced the new Mayor of Oldham will be Cllr Zahid Chauhan OBE, who will officially begin the role this month.
The Labour and Co-operative councillor, who represents Alexandra ward and is also a GP, has served on the cabinet previously and was the Deputy Mayor under Elaine Garry during her tenure between May 2022 and this month.
He will be sworn into the new role at a special Civic Service at Oldham Parish Church on Sunday, May 28.
The council said the service will begin at 10.30am and there will be a procession in the town centre beforehand.
Oldhamers are invited to attend the service and procession to mark the occasion.
