Oldham Mountain Rescue Team (OMRT) has been praised for locating a stranded walker on Saddleworth Moor and guiding them to safety.
Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) Oldham branch shared on social media in the early hours of today (Saturday, May 20) that they had worked with OMRT to find and help the walker.
According to GMP, the walker, who is said to have been experienced, became stranded in the dark near Birchen Clough on Saddleworth Moor.
OMRT deployed "within minutes" and used phone technology to pinpoint the walker's location and guide them to safety.
In the social media post, GMP said: "Many thanks to Oldham Mountain Rescue Team who deployed within minutes to assist police with a walker stranded in the dark near Birchen Clough on Saddleworth Moor.
"OMRT used phone technology to pinpoint the walkers location and deployed a team who located and escorted them down to safety.
"OMRT are a vital part of the emergency services team in our area and are all unpaid volunteers who deploy 365 days of the year.
"The walker was experienced and had decent equipment yet still struggled in the failing light."
GMP advised people who walk on the moors to plan their walks in advance and take supplies.
