Two Oldham men have been charged with robbery after a taxi driver had his earnings and some of his work equipment stolen in Royton.

Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, March 29 a taxi driver was forced to pull over before being "grabbed from behind" by his passengers on Springfield Lane, Royton.

The passengers stole the driver’s earnings for the night and some of his work equipment before fleeing on foot, police said.

The taxi driver was hurt during the incident, but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Following the incident an investigation was launched by Oldham's Neighbourhood Crime Team.

Ellis Mayall, 25, of Garden Terrace, Royton, and Ryan Wynn, 27, of Crossley Street, Royton, have now both been charged with robbery in connection to the incident.

Both men have been remanded into custody and are set to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court on Thursday, May 4.

Commenting on the robbery back in March, sergeant Matthew Adshead, of Greater Manchester Police's Oldham division, said officers said: “These sorts of incidents are always investigated thoroughly, and we are determined to ensure those responsible are held accountable for their actions.”
