A woman has been charged with the murder of a man in Hyde.

Rees Howarth, 28, was found in a critical condition after a “domestic disturbance” on Thorsby Avenue in Hyde at around 2.55pm on Sunday (April 23).

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services the 28-year-old died at the scene.

Katie Yeomans, 27, of Thorsby Avenue, Hyde was charged with his murder yesterday (Tuesday).

She has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court today.

A 19-year-old woman who was previously arrested on suspicion of murder has been released with no further action to be taken.

Following his death, Rees' family have paid tribute to him describing him as a “larger than life character” with a “heart of gold”.

In a statement released through Greater Manchester Police they said Rees will be “sadly missed by all who loved him” and have asked for privacy to grieve their loss.

DCI Mark Davis of GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “Our thoughts are of course with the victim’s family, and we will continue to support them at this extremely difficult time.

“Again, I would like to reassure the public that this is an is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public and we would please ask that members of the public not to speculate on this investigation.

“We can confirm that the 28-year-old victim is Rees Howarth, his family have expressed the following words to be shared in tribute to his memory.

“His family said that Rees was an ‘active and outing man, who was funny and loving. He had a heart of gold and was caring and kind hearted.

“He was a larger than life character who will be sadly missed by all who loved him’ and have expressed that their family and loved ones have privacy while they grieve for their loss.

“I would like to continue to appeal to members of the public for any information from anyone who may know more about this incident to please come forward and speak to GMP.”
