Two Oldhamers camped out for more than 12 hours overnight to win a prize at the new Tim Hortons.

To celebrate opening today, the restaurant, located on Manchester Road, gifted the first drive-thru and in-restaurant customers with free drinks every day for a year, which it says is worth £3,100.

The restaurant also gave away 100 free breakfast meals to the first 100 customers.

In-store, the new Oldham restaurant has a range of food on offer, including donuts, burgers, shakes, and more.

A local engineer, Sam Scholes, was the morning’s first in-store winner, having arrived at 7pm last night in preparation for the store’s 7am opening time.

Roman Wallace was the first drive-thru camper, staying in his car overnight from 7.30pm to win.

The restaurant will now be open daily from 6am until midnight.

The two lucky winners beat others to the prize. On Twitter, user Luke Hobday arrived at 10pm – a mere nine hours before store opening – but was informed that he was too late by the store manager.

He said: “I would have stayed the night! Year worth of coffee would cost so much, got there around 10pm.

“Didn’t want to wait any earlier though. Someone else had a chair at the front of the shop.”

Kevin Hydes, chief commercial officer of Tim Hortons franchise in the UK commented: “It has been wonderful to see so many fans visit us today, as we opened our doors for the first time in Oldham.

“We are no strangers to the city, so we’re really excited to be even closer to our loyal customers and the Oldham community.

“We know those yet to experience our everyday value offering and Canadian charm are in for a treat.

“A few guests secured some well-deserved, top prizes this morning, but all is not lost for those that haven’t made it to the restaurant yet.

“We have a number of opening promotions throughout the week and encourage guests to keep their eyes peeled on our Instagram!”
