An elderly woman is being treated for a head injury after she was involved in a car crash near Royal Oldham Hospital.
The A671 Oldham Road has been closed between Sheepfoot Lane and Seville Street, near the hospital, for hours today after reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car.
Emergency services have confirmed they were called out to the incident on Oldham Road at approximately 10am this morning.
The North West Ambulance Service said an ambulance crew attended the scene and treated a woman in her mid-80s with a head injury.
She has been taken to hospital.
Photographs of the scene show a car was damaged in the accident and roads, including Rochdale Road, have been closed by police.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called out to the scene and said a Seat Leon car had been driving northbound along Oldham Road in Royton towards the junction with Sparrow Street before hitting the pedestrian.
GMP said the woman had crossed the first half of the carriageway and was attempting to cross the second half when the vehicle hit her.
While the woman was taken to hospital, the driver remained at the scene and assisted officers with enquiries.
No arrests have been made but GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the crash.
