Oldham teenager Alisha Goup was walking to college when she was hit by a car that mounted the pavement, an inquest has heard.

Today (March 6) at Rochdale Coroners Court, the inquest into the 16-year-old girl's death was opened by senior coroner Joanne Kearsley.

The court heard from police coroners officer Tracy Bunn, who said the girl from Royton was on her way to college when the crash happened between a BMW and a Ford Fiesta on Rochdale Road, near the junction with Crompton Street.

PCO Bunn explained that the two cars crashed into each other, with the BMW mounting the pavement and hitting Alisha.

The car caused her head to hit a tree, which led to the fatal head injury.

Ms Kearsley adjourned the full inquest to a later date as the court waits for legal matters surrounding the incident to be resolved.

Omar Choudhury, of Broadway, Royton, and Hamidur Rahman, of Tilbury Street, Oldham, have been charged with causing Alisha's death by dangerous driving.

Choudhury, 21, and Rahman, 23, are due to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court on April 3 for a plea and trial preparation hearing and both remain in custody until then.
