An Oldham couple who have invested in innovative drinking establishments have scooped up another two top pub accolades.

The Fox and Pine at Greaves Street is CAMRA’s Rochdale, Oldham and Bury Branch Pub of the Year for the second year running.

And, in addition, it also claims CAMRAs Oldham borough Pub of the Year for the second time.

Landlord Chris Riley runs the Fox and Pine and his wife, Michelle the award-winning  Cob and Coal on Tommyfield Market, part of their Oldham Beer Company asset.

They named the pub after Michelle’s Leicester City birthplace (Fox) and Oldham Athletics’ original team name (Pine – Pine Villa).

Chris said: “We are really pleased with the pub's growing popularity in the town.

"It’s gratifying to know the pub has become so popular since we were only able to open properly after lockdown.

“Our loyal customers are astounding. And we’ve built up a great clientele including being ‘adopted’ by The Yeds, Oldham Rugby League supporters.”

CAMRA branch chairman Peter Alexander said: "I am delighted the Fox and Pine, which has become a mainstay of cask beer drinking in Oldham town centre, has been successful in winning this coveted award.

“Chris and Michelle have worked tirelessly to promote real ale in the branch area, and given that the pub has been open a relatively short time, it has firmly established itself in the Oldham Community and is a delight to visit.

“I wish them every success in the Greater Manchester competition, where they will be up against the best the region has to offer."
