Aldi is hiring people to work in its upcoming Lees store.
Planning permission for the new store, which includes demolishing the petrol filling station and adding more than 3000 square feet of floor space, was granted on Monday, (February 27).
The store, on Athens Way, was previously a Co-op location before closing last year on November 5, 2022.
Now, Aldi is advertising job roles for the new location.
Permanent and fixed-term roles are on offer, with salaries of up to £13.10 per hour.
Roles on offer at the Lees store include store cleaner, stock assistant, store assistant (fixed term), store assistant (permanent), and deputy manager.
The deputy manager role attracts the highest salary, at £12.20 to £13.10 per hour, plus an additional premium of £4 per hour while running the store.
Store assistants can expect to make £11 per hour, with stock assistants and store cleaners making £10.90 per hour.
The site is currently surrounded by railings, with signs saying ‘Aldi site entrance.’
The current Texaco filling station will be demolished and replaced with 14 rain-covered cycle parking spaces, seven disabled car parking spaces, eight parent and child car parking spaces, and six motorcycle parking spaces.
Overall, 109 total car parking spaces will be available in the car park, including four electric vehicle charging spaces.
Extensions on the store’s north and east sides will also be built, adding an additional 300 square metres (3229 square feet) of inside space.
According to Saddleworth West and Lees councillor Sam Al-Hamdani, there will be a cash machine available at the site, and Aldi has said it would not have issues with parents from local primary schools using the car park to take pressure off parking on adjacent streets.
Cllr Al-Hamdani said: “This is a real boost for the community. Aldi have been very engaged and positive so far, and we expect that to continue.
“We want more people to come to Lees for Aldi and for the many independent shops which provide a great local service, so that there's more for local residents and businesses alike.”
Job roles can be found on the Aldi recruitment website.
