An Oldham tutoring agency has been found to break the Childcare Register rules.

Nexus Learning, registered at Anchor Business Park in Westwood, advertises that it offers Ofsted-registered childcare.

As a tutor providing study support, Nexus Learning is not required to be on the Childcare Register by law, but chose to voluntarily register.

In an Ofsted report published on Wednesday, February 8, inspector Tricia Graham of Ofsted’s Early Years Inspection Team told the agency it needed to complete a number of actions as it was not reaching requirements for registration on the Childcare Register.

The agency was told it needed to:

  • Make sure everyone providing childcare had obtained an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service background check
  • Demonstrate that at least one person caring for children has a first-aid qualification
  • Ensure that at least one person has a minimum level 2 qualification in the area of work relevant to the childcare
  • Keep a record of any medicine given to a child, or that a child takes themselves
  • Keep Ofsted informed of any changes to the manager or people responsible for running the childcare.

The agency was told if it did not complete the requirements it would not be able to remain registered on the Childcare Register.

While the letter sent by inspectors was dated Wednesday, February 8, the agency was given until Thursday, February 2 to complete the actions.

Nexus Learning was contacted numerous times but did not respond for comment after multiple days.
