The clock that chimes above Royton Town Hall has stopped ticking after it was allegedly overlooked during recent refurbishment work.
According to Royton Conservative councillors, Lewis Quigg and Dave Arnott, the clock at Royton Town Hall has encountered a problem as it appears to have stopped working.
The councillors said they were told that the fault is due to the fact the clock has retained its original mechanism and "was not renewed as part of the recent refurbishment works".
In October last year, Oldham Council carried out a £2.4 million revamp to the town hall and adjacent library, originally built in 1880 as a municipal building, to restore it back to its "original Victorian glory" while providing a new and improved space for the community.
Amid the works, the clock tower's copper roof was repaired along with the clock face while the 1970s rear extensions were demolished.
The town hall's most prominent feature is its clock tower that is topped with a copper cupola and is inscribed with Latin mottos.
The councillors said an engineer has since been called to urgently repair and investigate the problem within the next five to 10 days.
Oldham Council has been approached for comment.
